"In tightly written, clever, fast paced stories, sure-footed actors gave polished performances, never wilting in energy, despite their grueling schedules, under extreme close-up observations. No separation of stage, actors and audience existed. I picked any vantage point to watch the plays. Although we never spoke or directly communicated, I know they perceived and responded to my reactions. My proximity to the actors heightened both the comedy and tragedy, for us all. I felt the authentic discomfort of voyeurism in watching what without a stage would be extremely private moments, including the intensity of viewing the most private thoughts inside a character’s mind.
It was strange and exciting to be so close to the characters. I did feel the intimate relationship of sharing the same live moments, unique to that performance.Go see Hotel Project. You will feel the production was all created just for you. And it will have been created just for you—and the love of theatre."

"Hotel Project received its world premiere in Querétaro, Mexico in July, playing to sold out houses, and just completed another successful edition at The Grand Summit Hotel in New Jersey.  Margineanu spoke to NearSay New York about the germination of this project and why it's unlike any other site specific project.LZ: How did the Hotel Project come about? AM: I was always fascinated in theatre about the relationship between spectacle and spectator. The live quality of this relationship is incredible to me. You cannot find it anywhere else in the arts. So, most of my ideas gravitate around how to make the audience member aware of this relationship.  I am very interested in creating experiences for the audience member to be a part of, opposed to performances for him or her to just watch.  From here it was an easy step to start thinking about performances for just one spectator at a time, in order to highlight this relationship..."( read more)

"Later this week, Hotel Project, an international collaborative site specific theater piece for one spectator at a time, will receive its United States premiere at two Tri-State area hotels — The Grand Summit Hotel in Summit, New Jersey and the Washington Jefferson in midtown Manhattan. Tamilla is one of the co-founders and directors of the project, which originated in Querétaro, Mexico last summer.During the Hotel Project, audience members are treated to three short plays specifically created for three different hotel rooms, but this theatre piece is unlike any other because only one audience member at a time is in each room.  Therefore, spectators are like flies on the wall, peeking into a room that they normally wouldn’t be allowed to. Tamilla talked to Works by Women about the Hotel Project, its challenges and future."  (read more)
